Geothermal Surface Exploration in Aluto Langano, Ethiopia Project number: ICE23066-1301NDF Ethiopia/2 Financed under the ICEDA/NDF Geothermal Exploration Project Implementing Agencies: Geological Survey of Ethiopia (GSE) and Ethiopia Electric Power (EEP) Deadline for receipt of EOIs: June 5, 2014 at 16.00 Icelandic time.

As stated in the released document:

The Icelandic International Development Agency (ICEIDA) and the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) are co-financing a project to support geothermal exploration and capacity building in East Africa with ICEIDA as the lead funding agency and implementing agency. The project is the initial phase of the Geothermal Compact partnership, initiated jointly by Iceland and the World Bank. Iceland GeoSurvey (ISOR) will serve as a technical consultant to the funding and implementing agencies in this project.

The main objective of the Geothermal Exploration Project is to assist countries in East Africa to enhance geothermal knowledge and capacity in order to enable further actions on geothermal utilization in the respective countries. This includes support to the exploratory phase of geothermal development and capacity building in the field of geothermal exploration and utilization. Under the Geothermal Exploration Project, ICEIDA and the Government of Ethiopia, represented by the implementing agencies, GSE and EEP, have established cooperation for support to geothermal development in Ethiopia. As a part of this cooperation surface exploration studies will be conducted in priority sites in Ethiopia.

ICEIDA, as the Client for the contract, now invites eligible experienced and qualified companies from any country to express interest in being shortlisted to receive Request for Proposals for Geothermal Surface Exploration in Aluto Langano in Ethiopia. The contract will be mainly financed from NDF’s contribution to the project.
