Funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment in Germany and supported by GFZ, the second annual International Conference on Enhanced Geothermal systems (ICEGS) will take place May 27, 2013 in Potsdam, Germany.

As reported by the organizers, speakers from all over the world will be attending the second International Conference on Enhanced Geothermal Systems (ICEGS) May 27, 2013, this year in Potsdam. The conference is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nucelar Safety and supported by the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences.

The main focus of this year`s conference is the stimulation in EGS-projects. This will be discussed in four different sessions. One of them will take a look on experiences with stimulations in the past and the conclusions that can be drawn from it. Amongst others the projects in Berlín/El Salvador and Soultz-sous-Forêts are presented.

After a look on the exploration methods for EGS-projects the actual stimulations will attain central importance: Specialists like Steven Hickman from the U.S. Geological Survey or Peter Rose from the University of Utah will speak about the recent stimulations in the Western USA, Desert Peak and Newberry. Heinz Holl is requested as representative from Geodynamics to present the results of the last years Habanero stimulations and also Joerg Baumgaertner is invited, who is involved in numerous stimulations worldwide.

The last session will take a look on future stimulations, one of the key question is here about the way the projects plan to stimulate the reservoir. A Key-Note speech on soft stimulation techniques will introduce this session.

Amongst others projects from Switzerland and Germany are presented. This will result in the final discussion with the invited experts about the improvements of stimulation techniques so that EGS-projects become economic.

The second International Conference on EGS is planned directly in vicinity of the GEISERS final Workshop in Naples in Italy, that takes place a few days after ICEGS. The venue for ICEGS is in the middle of historic center of Potsdam, close to the station, with good connection to the International Airport in Berlin. In the framework programme excursions to the in-situ laboratory in Groß-Schoenebeck and to The European Scientific Project in Soultz-sous-Forêts in France are offered. Moreover young scientists are invited to submit abstracts for poster presentations about the topic “Stimulations for EGS-Projects”.

For details on the event see the conference website at: www.icegs.eu. There you will find also the possibility for online-registration. Students will receive a special discount. Early-bird pricing is available until the end of March 2013.
