INAGA and GRC will hold a 2-days workshop focusing on early drilling in greenfield project areas ahead of the Indonesia International Geothermal Conference and Exhibition, August 8-9, 2016 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Join INAGA and GRC for a 2-days workshop focusing on early drilling in greenfield project areas, including strategies for managing risks and how to obtain the best information for understanding and evaluating a geothermal resource. Real-world experiences of successes and challenges during the early drilling phase will be shared by instructors and participants. This workshop is designed for students and engineers, geoscientists and project managers tasked with advancing geothermal projects through their most difficult stage: initial evaluation and drilling to confirm the resource and determine the size of the first increment of power.

Day 1 – PRE-FEASIBILITY STAGE – PLANNING THE DRILLING PROGRAM

Beginning with a session on the key elements of successful geothermal projects and development teams, the workshop will include the local initiation and planning of exploration programs, acquisition and analysis of exploration data (geology, geophysics and geochemistry data) and how to use these data to reduce project risk. The session will include the critical development of conceptual models and how to use them to select locations and drilling targets for the first exploratory wells and planning for the collection and analysis of critical data during drilling.

Day 2 – REACHING FEASIBILITY – EXECUTING THE DRILLING PROGRAM

Day 2 will focus on determining the optimum time to drill, the pros and cons of different well types, well designs and completion methods, followed by a discussion of drilling risks and mitigation measures, when and why to use air drilling, guidelines for well sequencing, monitoring drilling progress and analyzing drilling results to improve drilling performance and success rate. The program will also include post-drilling resource data collection and review and to maximize the value of drilling and using the results of drilling, logging and testing to characterize the resource and determine the optimum size and type for the initial power project and beyond.

The INGA workshop held in cooperation with GRC will feature Dennis Kaspereit
Vice President of Resource Management Geothermal Resource Group and Ann Robertson-Tait
Senior Geologist and Business Development Manager GeothermEx, Inc. as instructors.
