Strengthening the female voice in the geothermal industry – WING ambassador Abbie Dean

New Zealand's ambassador for the Women in Geothermal (WING) group, Abbie Dean recently talked to media in New Zealand on her ambitions for WING and the role of women in the global geothermal sector.
We have been writing about the Women in Geothermal (WING) movement before. Driven globally by a group of determined women that want to promote, educate and help advance women in the geothermal sector, WING has really made itself heard. Over the past few years, WING has held meetings, appointed national “ambassadors” and made sure to not forget the social aspect, holding e.g. cocktails at major geothermal events around the world.
In a recent news article in New Zealand, Abbie Dean, the NZ ambassador for WING and a geothermal geochemist at Contact Energy’s Wairakei Power Station, describes her view on the WING and how she got involved.
She also recently completed work on a five-year vision for WING, some kind of roadmap that includes having 50 percent male membership out of a target of 1,500 members by 2020.
As the only female geothermal geochemist at her work place, she describes her insecurity and lack of confidence when she started to work.
