Registrations will close this week for the upcoming 11th International Geothermal Conference, now taking place in Offenburg/ Germany in conjunction with the GEOTherm Expo, March 4-6, 2015.

There is a high international interest in the upcoming International Geothermal Conference 2015 to take place this year in Offenburg/ Germany, March 4-5, 2015.

The International Geothermal Conference IGC attracts a lot of international guests: This year more than half of the visitors will be from foreign countries. The regular registration will close this week on February 26, 2015.

Next week, Offenburg becomes the center of the Geothermal World. For the first time the International Geothermal Conference will take place in Offenburg in Germany from March 4th to 5th just before the GeoTHERM Expo.

This combination works: More than the half of the 230 registered participants of the Congress, the Field Trip to Bruchsal and the Upper Rhine Forum of the IGC come from foreign countries. Due to the Upper Rhine Forum on March 5th the biggest group of visitors will come from France. But there are also many visitors from Turkey and Switzerland that will join the IGC among participants as well from China, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Morocco, Italy and the Netherlands.

Interestingly, also utilities show increasing interest in geothermal energy. An example is the interest by EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg, which is also the Gold Sponsor of the event. There will also be utilities from France, Turkey and Switzerland to inform themselves about the possibilities in Germany.

An important reason for many experts to join the IGC is the possibility to discuss newest geological and technical developments of the deep geothermal energy sector.

One key question is still the efficiency of electrical submersible pumps (ESPs) that are the heart of the most geothermal plants. For this reason the conference opens a complete discussion forum on ESPs, with the major manufacturers in the panel. They will introduce their most powerful ESPs and discuss about the achieved developments. However the development is still in progress and there are still some challenges to cope with. This whole topic will be in focus of Forum II. The other Forums deal with Exploration and Risk Mitigation, the Geothermal Development in Turkey, Controlling the costs for Drilling Geothermal Wells and the Perspectives of Geothermal Heat Generation in large Cities and for Industry. Among presentations about geothermal heat utilization in Reykjavik, Munich and Geneva, Dr. Albert Genter from ÉS Géothermie will introduce the industrial ECOGI-Project in Alsace that finished just recently the second well.

You will find the complete conference programme as well as the possibility for registration on www.geothermiekonferenz.de. The regular registration ends on February 26th.
