Argentina: San Juan signs exploration agreement with Geotermia Andina

EPSE, Argentina's San Juan provincial power company, has signed an agreement with Argentine firm Geotermia Andina to conduct new geothermal exploration in the Los Despoblados area.

Reported locally, “EPSE, Argentina’s San Juan provincial power company, has signed an agreement with Argentine firm Geotermia Andina to conduct new geothermal exploration in the Los Despoblados area of Iglesia department, the provincial press office said in a statement.

Feasibility studies will be carried out over the course of the next 11 months, and a 5MW plant could be installed if geothermal resources are discovered.

Geotermia Andina head Giorgio Stangalino said that the area was in one of the “most interesting” for geothermal exploration in Argentina.

San Juan’s governor José Luis Gioja said the agreement was part of the province’s goal to continue developing new renewable capacity.

Elsewhere in Argentina, Neuquén province is currently holding a tender for the construction of a 3MW geothermal plant set for the Las Mellizas mine in Copahue.
