Italian Enel is considering an investment into geothermal development in Iran, following meetings with Iran's Renewable Energy Organization this month.

Reported yesterday from Teheran, Italian energy company Enel is considering a geothermal investment in Iran.  If an agreement will be reached, Enel and the Renewable Energy Organization of Iran will co-invest in a geothermal power project in the Northwest of Iran.

The country currently is developing a 50 MW geothermal project in Meshkin Shahr, Ardabil Province. It is not clear whether Enel will invest in the same project or launch a new one in the area.

Iran’s power plants are mostly hydro or fossil fuel-powered. Renewable energy makes up less than one percent of energy used in Iran.
