Ethiopia looking at up to 450 MW of geothermal development

The Ethiopian Geological Survey is interested in development of up to 450 MW at Abaya, Alto, Fentale, Kerbito, Tendaho and Tulu Moye by 2019.
Reported last week, the Ethiopian Geological Survey is keen on an increase of geothermal power generation.
In a recent statement by its Director, the Geological Survey is interested in development of up to 450 MW at Abaya, Alto, Fentale, Kerbito, Tendaho and Tulu Moye by 2019.
As reported on ThinkGeoEnergy previously, the country received a $50 million grant from the Climate Investment Fund, as part of a submission of an investment plan by Ethiopia.
The African Development Bank is the implementing agency of the Climate Investment Fund, under which the “Scaling UP Renewable Energy Program for Low Income Countries” is run.
The investment plan put forward by the country, was asking for investment and technical support for the Phase II development of the geothermal plant at Aluto Langano and a wind farm project at Assela. The ADB is expected to invest $23 million in both projects.
