The GEOLAC event will serve to catalyze the development of world-class geothermal projects in Latin America & the Caribbean.

In the wake of a record year for GEOLAC in 2014, we are excited to announce that GEOLAC 2015 will be hosted in Nicaragua, a dynamic energy market, one rich in geothermal, and one with a clear roadmap to future development.

Dates: November 18-19, 2015

Across other markets in the region prospects for geothermal are beginning to live up to the hype. From Mexico and Bolivia to Dominica and St. Lucia there is tangible progress towards exploration, financing and project execution.

Working alongside our development partners, led by the World Bank Group, GEOLAC 2015 will gather key stakeholders – governments, utilities, multilaterals, developers, capital providers, and other providers of expertise – to explore opportunities for increased geothermal output, tackle obstacles to development, promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise, and facilitate vital new meetings and relationships.

Ultimately, GEOLAC will serve to catalyze the development of world-class geothermal projects in Latin America & the Caribbean.

The objectives for GEOLAC are wide-ranging and ambitious:

  • Match long-term international funding and world-class technology to regional geothermal opportunities
  • Explore possibilities for the transfer and export of expertise and experience from international success stories (Kenya, Philippines, Mexico, et al.) to the Southern Cone, Andean and the Caribbean
  • Define the regional energy market: demand, supply – and opportunities for geothermal development
  • Provide regional utilities and governments a clear roadmap of the core technological, process, and environmental issues
  • Provide global geothermal developers and investors with a clear picture of where the regional opportunities lie and the conditions (policy, political, regulatory) which characterize each opportunity
  • Understand multilateral/development bank participation across the region and explore the availability of financing – and risk mitigation – for geothermal projects
  • Pinpoint the bottlenecks in legislation, tariffs, technology, political will and finance; work towards real world solutions
  • Introduce the best in global geothermal developers and technologies to regional energy decision-makers
  • Highlight world-class geothermal projects in and out of the region and analyze their success criteria
  • Explore the implications of SIEPAC for the development of geothermal in Central America
  • Get to grips with realistic opportunities for interconnection in the Caribbean; explore the impact interconnection would have for the economics of geothermal across the region
