Top Energy has signed a co-operation and development agreement with the Ngawha Marae Trustee Komiti to develop the Ngawha Geothermal Expansion Project.

Top Energy has been trying to expand its Ngawha geothermal electricity generation capacity in NZ for quite some time. According to the firm’s website,  “the Ngawha Geothermal Expansion Project will utilise available geothermal resource to benefit the region and the expected commissioning in 2020 is timed for forecast increased national electricity demand.”

This might be closer than expected since local news state that the utility “has signed a co-operation and development agreement with the Ngawha Marae Trustee Komiti which both parties hope will lead to cultural and commercial development at and around the geothermal field near Kaikohe.”

Most of the details remain confidential but this is clearly good news for the Far North Territories in NZ.
