Toshiba receives order for 72 MW flash plant for Kizildere III project in Turkey

Toshiba receives order for a 72 MW triple flash turbine for the Kizildere III geothermal power project by Zorlu Enerji in Turkey. The plant will also add a 23 MW binary plant by Ormat.

Japanese Toshiba Corp. announced today, that it received an order for a 72 MW flash steam turbine and generator system for Zorlu Enerji Elektrik in Turkey.

The turbine is to be supplied for the Kizildere III geothermal project by Zorlu. The plant is planned to combine a 72 MW triple flash combined cycle plant with an integrated 23 MW binary cycle system to be provided by Ormat.

The project is located in Kizildere in the West Anatolian region in the province of Aydin. It will be the largest facility of its kind in Europe and the Middle East.

Toshiba is expected to deliver the turbine by December this year, with a scheduled start of operation in October 2017.

Turkey continues to be a major growth market for the geothermal industry. With an installed capacity of 648 MW as of today, the country plans to push geothermal development to 2,500 MW by 2023.

Toshiba signed a cooperation agreement with Ormat back in October 2015, and a wide reaching cooperation agreement with Zorlu Enerji on geothermal and hydro power development in Turkey in February this year.
