In a recent lease sale for oil, gas and geothermal leases, only one - subsequently successful - bid was received for a geothermal lease on Augustine Island in Cook Inlet, Alaska.

Recently a sale for oil, gas and geothermal leases was conducted in Alaska, United States. While about 145,739 acres were acquired for oil and gas development, geothermal saw little to no interest.

There were no bids received for leases on the Alaska peninsula. There was though one bid received for the Augustine Island geothermal lease.

There is no long history of various geothermal leases in the state of Alaska. With the one held last week, this is only the third lease sale conducted for geothermal leases.

In 2008, Ormat Technologies, see earlier news of today, acquired the Mount Spurr geothermal lease and another one was conducted in the 1980s.

Details about the Augustine lease can be found here. It seems like an individual paid around $2,500 for the lease and was the only bidder for it.
