Ormat has received an approval by the Imperial County Board of Supervisors for its 16 MW expansion project for the Heber 1 geothermal power plant in Heber, Imperial County, California.

At a recent meeting of the Imperial County Board of Supervisors, Ormat received an approval for the expansion of the existing Ormat Heber 1 Geothermal Plant in Heber. This approval followed after denying the California Unions Renewable Energy’s appeal, proceeding the hearing during a board meeting last week, as reported by local The Desert Review.

“The expansion will consist of adding on additional an Ormat Energy Converter (OEC 14) that will add 16 MW gross to the existing 62.5 g MW gross (42 MW net) megawatt facility and modify one of the existing Gould 1 Ormat Energy Converters (OEC 12).

The new OEC will utilize brine from the existing Heber 1 and Gould 1 units via existing pipelines, except for piping modifications to connect the new OEC 14 to the Gould 1 OEC 12. The expansion will include an additional three cell cooling towers to the existing facilities constructed in 2006 along with an additional storage tank for iso-pantane (10,000 gallon tank). No other changes will be made to the existing plant site as it will be completed within the footprint of the existing Heber 1 complex facility.”
