New Zealand based energy company Top Energy is considering the option of a 100 MW extension of its Ngawha geothermal power plant in Northland on the North Island in New Zealand.
Reported locally, Top Energy is planning an expansion to its Ngawha geothermal power plant in Northland on the northwestern tip of the North Island in New Zealand.
As announced by the Chief Executive of Top Energy, Russell Shaw, the company believes in the potential of additional 100 MW to the currently 25 MW installed capacity.
The plans are supported by local and the central government under the hope that it will help to lead economic growth in the region.
The Ngawha field is the only field in New Zealand not to be found in the Taupo Volcanic Zone. It was an initial 10 MW plant that started operating in 1998 with an extension of 15 MW starting operations in 2008.
Top Energy is the operator of the plant. The company owns most of the land that would be needed for an extension.
